Interesting.  I'm going to poke at some stuff, but can you take a
screenshot of two side-by-side xterms (or whatever), one with screen
running and one without?  I'd like to see what it looks like.  If you
could include your .screen rc, that might be helpful, too.

I'll see if I can reproduce this behaviour.  (You've got me intrigued,
because I've never seen a problem like this before.)
