I use `scout` for this. `:scout -fm` will let you interactively filter
the current directory and select the result when pressing enter. So,
`:scout -fm .png<enter>` will probably get you what you want. With
`-rfm` you get an actual regex match.

Be sure to check out the other options of the scouts command, I quote
from the manual: Swiss army knife command for searching, traveling and
filtering files.
