Unfotunately when I connect to the proxy port and to a straight get it just
outputs a 400 error.

Additionally it should be noted that this is being seen on two machines, on
running win2k and ie6 and a second running xp.

assuming the default port,

telnet x.x.x.x 3128
GET

(press enter 2 times after GET)

The first few lines will have the Server and version string, mine
is "Squid/2.4.STABLE7"
