What I mean by radio failsafe is this: what happens if you turns off your RC
transmitter? It's not set in paparazzi anywhere, it's the input to paparazzi
from your RC equipment.
What sort of RC equipment are you using?.
The autopilot has no way of knowing if the signal to paparazzi from the RC
equipment is being sent from a transmitter or from behavior of the receiver
when it looses reception of the RC commands.
I suggest you test it on the bench with the message tool program. Make sure you
are sending RC messages, and watch what happens to the RC message when you turn
your transmitter off... There are only 2 acceptable alternatives, either you
stop getting RC messages or the mode channel puts you into AUTO2. Anything else
then you have a problem and probably need to reconfigure your receiver, because
your receiver is telling your autopilot to do the wrong thing.

The defaults are probably OK, but that's not important if your receiver is
giving the wrong message to your autopilot.
It might be something else of course, this just seems to me to be the simplest
explanation for your problem.
