Personally, I'm not sure it makes that much difference, generally
speaking.  However, eliminating the need for the GMP dependence and
the human readability are both advantages.  Simplicity has its
virtues.  And, considering the amount of extra storage required for
this change, I don't think compactness of the entries makes that much
difference, honestly.
