Follow-up Comment #25, bug #59968 (project octave): Regarding comment #20: I think there is a confusion between git and Mercurial (hg) in general. Octave's major version control system is hg. https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave If you choose to work with the git mirrors https://github.com/gnu-octave/octave.git https://gitlab.com/gnu-octave/octave.git you of course get the very same "working" Octave code. But all hg related functions (HG_ID, .hgignore, etc.) are not working. You cannot create a distribution tarball, for example. and your commands of comment #24 "hg status" cannot succeed when you are working on a git clone. Maybe you started working on a git clone and started to mix it up with hg and received an inconsistent repository?
