Follow-up Comment #22, bug #57044 (project octave):

If we don't have gnulib as a subrepo, how are things supposed to work?  After
updating, do you now always have to use bootstrap to make sure that you are at
the expected gnulib revision?  Will there be any warning from configure or
make if you are not?
