Follow-up Comment #23, bug #57553 (project octave): @Rik: Yes, this is due to antialising, it also shows up when viewing a pdf file in a pdf viewer. I once tried to go for the strategy you propose -not draw unnecessary ticks and grid lines over box lines- but it was much harder than I had expected and I gave up.
