I think there is no way to monitor a system thoroughly without small scripts

See *_script files in
https://github.com/szepeviktor/debian-server-tools/tree/master/monitoring/monit/services

For example monit it not able to tell whether Spamassassin is alive -  
no shell script support in "check program"

or our system is consistent
