Moreover, if you're working on you favorite Pi tribute choral in 3/14 time (granted, unusual), you'd be out of luck without fractions:

{ \time 3/14 R1*15/14 }

The fraction is not the problem:

{ \time 3/4 R1*3/4 }

This works because it’s a *full* measure rest now. Also, you could have written

{ \time 3/4 R2. }

or

{ \time 3/4 R4*3 }

instead.
