Personally I use wordpad and make sure that I save in plain text.

When I first save the file I go back and rename it for a .ly extension and from
then on just work in it.

Then I can drag and drop the file on the lilypond icon or right-click on the
file and 'open with...' Lilypond.

That is about as simple as it gets I for me.

I can even change the font in the wordpad file (to courier) as having a fixed
width font to edit with is easier on the eye (I think).

Dear community,
I'm searching for a simple text-editor for windows. It is for the computer
in my music-school.
It is an old machine and lilypondtool, because it requires java, doesn't
work on it.
Vim and emacs would be too complicated for my dear colleagues.
And with the very simple editor that comes with the lilypondversion of
windows, I have the problem, that it shows the whole file (that I've written
with Frescobaldi) in one line.
Does someone of You have an recommandation?
