So how about the following: completionFactor is the resulting completion factor if positive. It is a multiplier for the resulting completion factor if it is negative. We don't complete if it is zero.
The main behaviors can be achieved by using +1 or -1 here. There is no mixed or smart behavior. The default in my opinion should be -1 as that is the only behavior (apart from 0, of course, but why use completion engravers then?) consistent between split and unsplit notes.
