So far, so good. I followed the instructions posted at
http://blogs.bu.edu/mhirsch/2013/12/compiling-octave-3-8/ and the only
problem I've found so far is that make check returns a FAIL message for
scripts/sparse/svds.m. From what I've read, that does not appear to be
unexpected:
scripts/sparse/svds.m .................................. PASS 5/6 FAIL
