That looks like octave-3.6.1, not 3.6.2.
symbolic doesn't work with Octave > 3.2.4, which is why I don't have a
Fink package for it.
But let's see if you have a problem with your mkoctfile. What do you
get from running "grep i386 /sw/bin/mkoctfile" ?
