I ran a few tests of execution speed for Octave
A simple benchmark for octave is at
ftp://fly.cnuce.cnr.it/pub/software/octave/benchmark.m.
In the same directory there is also a list of results form different
sources, but I stopped collecting them at a point where the results
seemed to not being comparable among architectures because of
(apparently) compiler issues.
