Description: message/delivery-status--- Begin Message ---Subject: RE: about octave for win95 Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 19:49:29 -0400 Hi, sorry about the trouble you've been having. The installation is not really being supported right now. Best you could do is download the developer's version at the matlinks.sourceforge.net download area (go to www.sf.net and search for the project called "matlinks", then go to the download area and select the octave-windows-developer version). Then modify to work, and let everyone know you've fixed it. A possible work-around might be to install in safe mode (first download, then reboot in safe mode -- press F8 @boot). Sorry I can't do any more for you, I really wish I could but I have too many other projects going on right now and anyway Octave is a user-supported platform. Welcome to the world of open source software. If anyone else might be able to help it would be Tom Weichmann. Try searching the octave archives for his email. Good luck, Julian -----Original Message----- From: Ladislav Kocbach [mailto:address@hidden Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 4:00 AM To: address@hidden Cc: Ladislav Kocbach Subject: about octave for win95 Dear Julian de Marchi, I am writing to you to make you aware of my other attempts to reach you (there is one at matlink reporting system by now ...) There are listed already 4 messages from people who tried to install octave on win9x and did not succeed. I have now spent some time with this, and I would like to discuss with the person responsible for that part of the project. Can you please make such contact possible (or is it you who worked out the 'exe' installation of octave for win32 ?) Thank you in advance for your response! Description: message/delivery-status--- Begin Message ---Subject: RE: enormous bugs-installation octave win9x Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 19:54:02 -0400 Hi again The version you installed does not include TexInfo 4.0 which you should use. Install the latest from CygWin and you will be fine there. Don't know about GNU Plot. Problem w/Windows installation is lack of environment space (DOS window is used for install). That's the ONLY problem. Why I suggested safe mode. Hope that works. For 50% of users installation is flawless. Other 50% (too many, I agree), endless problems. Wish we could've done better. I tested on '95, '98, and NT, with no problems. Several others too. Seems to depend on the environment space, that's all. Sorry it affected you. Eventually we'll fix this, I promise. Could be some months though. Too many other things to do. -----Original Message----- From: nobody [mailto:address@hidden Behalf Of Ladislav Kocbach Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 3:47 AM To: address@hidden Subject: enormous bugs-installation octave win9x !!! Please, contact me by normal email: mailto:address@hidden !!!! I cannot write all I want to explain to you in this funny box. Thank you all for that marvelous work you are doing. But you have perhaps been too fast in testing .... I have spent some time testing octave for win32 on win9x. I found (unlike the 4 other reporters in your bug repository) what are the problems of your 'exe' installation. (it calls gzip, which crashes and then wipes out octave*.tar.gz) I run octave fine now, except of link to gnuplot, but that I am confident I will manage too (but some help would naturally save my time) Also, the help does not work, tries to call texinfo (but that I must check further) It also seems that the subset of cygwin you include is too small.
