Plotting strings

Hi,

i'm using octave to calculate and to plot signals. Sometimes, I use the command
"gset label "label" at x,y" to plot the string "label" at x,y.
My question:
Is it possible to plot string objects, i.e. a vector containing characters,
similar to command above?
