gnuplot surf

Hi,
I try to improve octave's bar-plot.

Is there a way to plot a shaded quad?

Currently the bars are drawn in wireframe.
Is gnuplot able to plot coloured surfaces?
Meshing uses wireframe too, so I wonder if 
gnuplot is able to plot any shaded quad/triangle.
