gnuplot problem

I'm a newbie to Octave, but I was unable to find information about this
problem in the archives.

How can I plot texts on the x- and/or y-axis? For example the x-axis is
"Jan" "Feb", .... and the y-axis is the production output? 

In HP-UX 10.20 system, we have octave version 2.0.9 and gnuplot version 3.5 
(pre 
3.6).
