I heartily endorse Mario's comment. I have had exactly the same
precompiled octave-1.1.1 binary working pedrfectly well on Linux systems
with 1.0.8, 1.0.9, 1.2.8, 1.2.13 and 2.0 kernels (binary simply copied
from system to system).
