IIRC my set theory of 50 years ago - what I'm looking for is the 
intersection of those sets.

While chasing down some related rabbit-trails I'm re-reading specific 
portions of the GRUB Manual, particularly "Appendix A How to obtain and 
build GRUB"

May be overkill. But I have a dedicated test-bed physically and 
electrically isolated from the world. The experience should be 
educational if nothing else ;/
