This is something for the FAQ! BTW, another solution is also
available:
Don't use empty lines but a single dot at the beginning of the line,
e.g.

This is a
.
.
.
.
.
.
test.
===
IMHO this looks almost equally nice
Just in case that .blm is already in use...
