Bug 37919 is for gNewSense 2, which requires a slightly different
approach. The package change should be integrated into Builder [1].
There are 2 ways to do that:

1) like gen-kde4libs, where the patch is a separate file (in the images
folder) and the gen script just copies into the package
2) like gen-thunderbird, where the gen script modifies the package
using sed and other text manipulation.

Claws-mail in gNS 3 was already patched for Opera by Marek [2]. I see
that your patch does a bit more. Could you modify it so that it applies
after Marek's patch? The normal workflow would be something like:

apt-get source claws-mail
cd claws-mail-*
quilt new <patch name of your choice>
quilt edit src/prefs_ext_prog.c
quilt refresh

What's your reason for replacing rxvt? As far as I know there are no
freedom problems with it.
