I didn't realise this existed and though as you pointed out there are serious problems, it's certainly encouraging.

I think it's probably easier if the new group target organisations
that they already have some contact with (such as their local schools
and colleges), at least at first.

Some of the larger Scout campsites near Manchester[1] I seem to remember having ICT clusters...

In fact, I there seems to be a "Technology Camp" at one nearish us[2] in October..

They seem to also be calling for volunteers to help them out... perhaps a group of us could do something about caring for one and other, the free software ideology, doing good turns and doing cool stuff on gnu/linux.....</spontaneous response>

It wasn't discussed at the meeting because it's not a part of
Manchester Free Software.

It *could* be discussed, but we would be discussing it within the scope of Manchester Free Software obviously.

It's a separate group set up by some local
young people and affiliated with Manchester Free Software. Tim is the
best person to ask about how it's going,

:P yeah that's right

although it is exam season at the moment (IIRC anyway).
Heh. well I finished mine ages ago, however I'm travelling for the next month or so, so my attendance of Manchester Free software meetings and responses to emails may become less frequent.
