If all you need is a terminal, you won't get significantly better results 
with a terminal emulator under X than with fbterm.

Nonsense.  The "buggy" program here is clearly not Emacs.  The raw Linux 
console is simply too limited, by design, and there's little that can be 
done on the Emacs side to alleviate these limitations.
