Having it outside Emacs's own repository is fine.  The only thing that
matters is that the 2 branches stay in close sync: some people may
commit changes directly to the Emacs repository, so you have to watch
out for it, make sure that those changes don't get lost (or do get
properly rejected/rewritten/fixed if there's a problem with it).

Cool. I think with Ken's help, we can easily do this. Let's keep it in a separate repository.

I haven't yet done an import from SF, but I'll do that once we all agree that this is the right way to go (I think Ken and Skip are on board). I'll get the svn imported into bzr and suck over any SF tracker issues.

Right now, I've marked the license as the Python license. If y'all tell me we can legally GPL it, I'll double check with the Python community, and if everyone there is cool with it, we'll make the switch. Then folks can start planning the integration work.
