I'm using Gentoo, so I have to use a custom ebuild, which I do have and which
works, though it's a few steps extra to install. I just had thought the
requirement for the separate b2sdk was an old one, and that duplicity may have
added native support, but that's not the case. It still needs b2sdk.

still not sure what the issue is. sorry. would you mind to explain how
installing just one more package affects your box negatively?
how do you install duplicity btw?
