on some distros cron starts with an empty environment.
you can set it manually on top of your crontab, supposed you use a user crontab
for root then 'crontab -e' and add
HOME=/root
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
..ede/duply.net
