problem solved. the cause was a lack of understanting of --include, --exclude
syntax, and how paths were formed from the root directory. i was trying to just
verify a part of the backup as shown below:
#duplicity -v9 --exclude '/home/*/.gnupg' --include '/var/spool/cron/crontabs'
--include '/var/backups' --include '/etc' --include '/root' --include
'/home/kev' --include '/home/luc' --include '/usr/local/bin' --include
'/usr/local/sbin' --include '/var/lib/dpkg/status' --include
'/var/lib/dpkg/status-old' --exclude '**' /
scp://address@hidden//home/kev/backup/lucio
#duplicity verify -v9 scp://address@hidden//home/kev/backup/lucio /home/kev
Verify complete: 2453 files compared, 2453 differences found.
when the verify command should have been:
#duplicity verify -v9 scp://address@hidden//home/kev/backup/lucio
--exclude '/home/*/.gnupg' --include '/var/spool/cron/crontabs'
--include '/var/backups' --include '/etc' --include '/root' --include
'/home/kev' --include '/home/luc' --include '/usr/local/bin' --include
'/usr/local/sbin' --include '/var/lib/dpkg/status' --include
'/var/lib/dpkg/status-old' --exclude '**' /
which, together with the notes from you all about how paths are formed, was the
clue i needed to restore something:
#duplicity --file-to-restore home/kev/my.txt
scp://address@hidden//home/kev/backup/lucio /home/kev/tmp/hey.it.worked.txt
$cat /home/kev/hey.it.worked.txt
hi
thanks folks!!!
