Re: [DotGNU]Ximian shows its stripes at last

Martin,
I have checked the posting on Ximian's website from which Rhys
has quoted, and found that it contains exactly the text which
Rhys has quoted from it. I have also checked the context, and
the context clearly indicates that Miguel de Icaza indeed
considers creating a proprietary derivative product of the Mono
C# compiler and/or runtime engine to be a real possibility. It
is not just a mere theoretical possibility, as he points out
"Ximian might relicense any of the code it owns under different
licenses (this for example enabled us to develop the Exchange
plugin for Evolution, which is a proprietary plugin)."

Check it yourself:
http://lists.ximian.com/archives/public/mono-list/2002-January/002510.html

Developers who do not want their code to ever become part of
proprietary software would therefore indeed be ill-advised to
contribute to the Mono C# compiler and/or runtime engine.

Opinions will vary as to how bad this really is. As Miguel
points out, it'll always be possible to create a fork from the
last GPL'd version, so you'll still have the right to use and
maintain a Free version of the software.

The point is that Ximian reserves the right to grant themselves
an exception from the Copyleft aspects of the GPL. It's your
own decision whether that is something that you want to get
upset about or not.

But if you choose to not take this kind of thing serious, that
does not give you the right to publicly insult those who take it
seriously.

The DotGNU mailing lists exist for purposes of exchanging
information, and for getting useful work done. Personal insults
such a your most recent posting are not acceptable here. (You
have been warned about this multiple times.) Because of your
repeated posting of personal insults, you are hereby declared
"persona non grata". Don't ever (under any email address)
subscribe or post to any dotgnu.org mailing list again.

Greetings, Norbert.
