Hi Narcis, nobody here ever wrote that the two remote endpoints should be
considered a single entity.
One of the questions is wether the user - who may legitimately want to not
include non-free or closed source clients in a conversation - should be warned
that the remote endpoint uses a non-free version of the same VoIP software used
by the caller/meeting holder.
Ah, now I understand what you are saying. I'm not sure there is an easy
solution outside of education and communication. Letting people know
about the issues of using nonfree software in general is probably the
best way to go.

Same as two computers with different OS when they share data in same LAN.
VoIP is more commonly used for communication between distant locations, such as
between offices in different cities or countries, or for remote workers to
communicate with colleagues and clients, distance relationships, remote family
meetings, ...
In a LAN, traditional telephony or other forms of voice communication are often
preferred, such as face-to-face conversations, intercoms, or traditional phone
systems. In other words, you don't typically stream your voice and face in a
LAN because... you can just walk and talk.🙄
Even if you decide for whatever reason to use VoIP in a LAN, LANs are
restricted environments where the user likely knows what OS are installed on
the remote machine and the version of the remote softphone.
