I know of an XP machine I could test on, but it may take a while.

I just checked in the Denemo rc file, and in any case I
deleted .denemo-1.2.3 before running it. But the real killer check is to
run it at the local library, whose machines have never seen Denemo or
LilyPond. I haven't had a chance to do this with your binary. I have two
or three people who will be testing though.

I've just tested this on windows vista, everything was ok except for a
segfault on exit, occurring in close_gui_with_check() (no debugging
symbols are available).

The "side panel" is, in fact three palettes packed in there, which
anyone doing more than playing with the mouse will want to delete. But
this won't be the only place the Denemo font is being used - it is used
in many, many places. The purpose is so to be able to write sentences
using embedded characters for crotchets/quarter notes/rests etc so that
they are understood by everyone, even those with rudimentary English.

That would be easy enough - the palettes are entirely configurable -
but, as I say, the problem is much more pervasive. We didn't create
those Denemo caricatures of the 1/4 note etc for nothing. In a standard
font the 1/4 note and 1/2 note glyphs are very difficult to distinguish
if they are included in a piece of text (as in "Change a 𝅘𝅥 to a 𝅗𝅥")
> Is there an option for that that I do not know about?
I would guess what's needed is some sort of font-install thing for the
mac, like we have for windows ... but I guess what is puzzling is that
this issue should arise now - nothing has changed around fonts for
several releases...
