GNU Awk development ("new features") tree now available

This note is to announce that the GNU Awk CVS repository on Savannah now
contains a new project, "gawk-devel", which represents my development
tree for gawk.

The existing gawk-stable project will continue to be used for bug fixes
and performance improvements. My intention is to not put new features
into that treee, but into the gawk-devel tree instead.

The gawk-devel tree is by definition UNSTABLE and you should not use it
for production. It is based on the latest stable released version of
gawk, plus additional development. At some point I will do a new stable
release, and merge the fixes into the development tree as well.

Right now gawk-devel does not have huge amounts of new features in it.
But there are several things I've had on the back burner that I hope to
start giving some attention to and getting them into the tree.

In general, I hope to maintain both trees in parallel; bug fixes in
one, and new features in the other, and to do releases on a "reasonable"
schedule (for some definition of "reasonable" :-).

I hope that making this tree public will be useful to the gawk user
community.
