First of all, linking internally should, IMO, be done
by the UIDs (makes it easier for mirrors for
starters). You just put in the UID of each article you
want to refer to either in the text in <uid></uid> for
example, or at the end in a "see also.." section.

Your questions depend slightly on how new "versions"
of articles, additions to articles, etc. are actually
displayed and treated:

a) Are additions articles in their own right?
b) Are new versions (same author) new articles, or
footnotes, or links at the bottom to older versions?

I would say that additions are articles in their own
right (so that when you search for "canoe", a screen
is presented with each article + addition about
canoes, with a synopsis of each to save time for
choosing which to read). So in that case, links to
additions wouldn't be hard, you'd just put in the UID
of whichever original/additional articles you want.

New versions of articles by the original author would
be displayed as the original article, with the older
versions either as links at the bottom, or just
beneath it (load times need to be considered here).
Perhaps versions could be designated like this:
Normal UID: 10225
Versions: 10225v1 10225v2 etc.
You would just link to 10255v2 instead of simply
10225.

In terms of diagrams or figures etc. within an
article, I think you'd just have to put something like
"See diag1 in <uid>this article</uid>".

We could, later on, have a sort of a "profile" page
for all members (therefore authors) which you could
also link to with a mid (member id).

Thats what I'd do anyway :)
