New instruction were uploaded to
http://bibledit.org/demo/help/002ubuntu1004server.php. I followed these
on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. The Bibledit-web
installation works fine after that. 

When running the setup.php it did not give the error about the smarty
compile directory not being writeable.
