Indeed, the option to use a symbol is there, in fact you can set any symbol
you'd like.
The feature request is for a pre-defined symbol sequence. Currently I see
Automatic, None, and Character. How about Numeric, Alpha, Symbol-sequence, and
Custom (currently 'Character')?
