I can't confirm this.  My FreeBSD port works well with binutils
2.16 (and the libbfd derived from that).

Here I noticed just the opposite.  2.15-based libbfd caused it to fail
as some tag was missing in some struct, but 2.16-based libbfd worked
for me (albeit I've still got some troubles in other areas).
