What would be the effects of these macros?  My guess would be that
AC_REPLACE_FUNC_MEMCMP would be the same as the current AC_FUNC_MEMCMP,
and AC_CHECK_FUNC_MEMCMP would simply define HAVE_[WORKING_]?_MEMCMP.
Unfortunately, neither of these satisfy my requirements.  I really need to
be able to specify an arbitrary action.
