In the tarball. In RPM packages, for example, INSTALL, FAQ and so on
are moved into something like /usr/share/doc/auctex-11.80. I am
currently worrying about RPM layout, and consequently about the
structure for the /usr/share/doc directory. When we have a
non-integrated preview style, at least the docs from that will go into
/usr/share/doc/preview-11.80. But with an integrated preview style,
the README from AUCTeX, from preview-latex _and_ from preview.sty all
have to end up in some manner in /usr/share/doc/auctex-11.80.

We don't have "release-specific subdirectories" in our tarball or CVS.

I suppose we should just dump "RELEASE" from preview-latex. CHANGES
seems a bit more problematic, though... We probably should put
something preview-latex related in there, as well.

I should really start reading and answering postings bottom to top.
Would save time.

Hm.

Oh, I am not worried about the tarball. I am worried about the layout
of 11.55-extra on the ftp server (which shows release-relevant info
including, uh, some files or other), and about
/usr/share/doc/auctex-11.80 and similar on Linux distributions.
