AAC does not support DRM. AAC is a compression format like MP3. The
patents to it are actually very similar to MP3 -- binary distributions
of encoders are taxed, players and such are gratis. As such, it's
exactly as problematic as MP3 and in almost identical ways.

Apple uses an "mp4" wrapper to AAC which also supports their FairPlay
DRM standard but this has nothing to do with the compression format
itself. Perhaps that what you were thinking of.
