It may be interesting in the future but right now we have plenty of
work to do and adding a true abstracted layer would not be a trivial
task.
And I have to add that CERN is not interested in, because even for
distributed stuff, they now use largely mysql, which has recently
extended its capabilities in this area. So if we have to get this work
done, it will be a GNU-only addition. It means that every savannah
installation will benefit from it, but it means that people at CERN
will not work on it.
