Follow-up Comment #4, bug #55267 (project octave):

Yes, this gtk messages goes away, when I untick the option "use native file
dialogs" in the Octave GUI preferences.

And yes, this is a good workaround for me personally.

But I am unsure how appreciated this "warning message" will be by other users.
If this happens on most (vanilla) Ubuntu versions, then I would think this is
not so nice. If it's just on my personal PC (with maybe too many dev packages
installed), then it's OK. Let's just wait if there will be more people
complaining about this...

By the way: There is cucrrently no translation of this GUI string in the
settings. Also in my german GUI (where everything else is nicely translated to
german), this option has an english name. But this might be part of the normal
pre-release cycle that has just started for Octave 5.0
