I have a DVR-A04, and I had a similar problem, I could burn CDRs but not
DVDRs. The solution that was passed on to me by Ben Steinberg was to turn
dma off and read-only off.

hdparm -d 0 -r 0 /dev/<your ide device>

You have to be root to do this.
You do this after the scsi modules have been loaded (if they are not in your
kernel).

Hope this helps

Christian

Subject: [Dvdrtools-users] Cannot sucessfully write to Pioneer DVR-A03

I have been facing this problem for a few months now. First with=20
cdrecord-ProDVD and
now I've just tried dvdrtools. I am just trying to write data DVDs for=20
backup purposes.
Here's my system details:

   machine: Dual AMD Athlon 1600+
   ram: 2-gig ECC RAM
   mobo: Tyan Tiger S2460
   disk: hda: 20gig
                  hdb: 80gig
                  hdc: 'PIONEER ' 'DVD-RW DVR-103 ' '1.65' Removable=20
CD-ROM
                  hdd: 80gig

I've created the iso in a variety of ways and used a variety of=20
parameters on the
dvdrecord command and still get this type of error. The latest, for=20
which results
are shown below were done this way:

        mkisofs -R -J -o /m1/dvd/test.iso .
        dvdrecord -v -dao dev=3D0,0,0 test.iso

The error shown below is writing to a generic DVD-RW but results seem to
be the same writting generic or name-brande DVD-R disks. I just didn't=20
want to
waste too many more DVD-Rs trying to get this to work. The ammount writte=
n
and the location of the error changes randomly.=20

Any ideas?
