It's not really us that you need to convince, but RMS.  As a matter
of policy, DotGNU only uses licenses compatible with GPL/LGPL and
we follow the FSF's direction on matters of licencing.

For a project like Portable.NET (can't speak for the other components),
the ransom model wouldn't really help matters.  We rely upon volunteer
contributions for the bulk of the development.  If the volunteers
cannot get access to the source from day one, then they can't help us.

It seems to me that the ransom model will only work if a company with
several in-house developers does the primary development work.  That
isn't the case currently for DotGNU.

If RMS blesses it, we'll have a look at it.  But DotGNU cannot
pre-empt RMS in these kinds of matters.
