What do you mean by connect to ldap via PAM
What command/programm do you use?

LDAP is probably broken
Do you have the same result with 
 /usr/lib/sourceforge/bin/install-ldap.sh list
If yes ldap is broken

we don't touch  /etc/pam_ldap.conf but libpam-ldap seems to be needed
You can try to look at bug report on libpam-ldap
