I think so. the dispersion of checkout times is very high, so
the sample may not be representative. select-www-co does download
5% more data and spends more time in computations, but the difference
must not be so big.
The difference is visible also when running the 2 scripts in parallel,
in 2 terminals.
Any communication is a random process. I can't deny that the difference
may be huge, but I only observe is that the main component, checkout
time, varies greatly from run to run, and many measurements are needed
to say anything for sure.
But who cares for 10 seconds, after all, when we are
saving from 15min to over an hour?
I'd also think about that as about saving hundreds MB of disk space.
