Hi Michael et al,

I did not follow up with the projectile folks but recently noticed the same behavior (tramp does not appear to engage when I enter the remote dir, i.e. C-x C-f /ssh:<user>@<host>:~/) also happens when I enable eat (my term of choice) or lsp-bridge.

How can I start debugging to understand the root of the cross contamination?

I don't use projectile-mode, so I cannot say anything about. Likely
you'll be better to ask projectile-mode developers.
