[Swarm-Modelling] Communication models

I am going to be writing a chapter on agent-based modeling for an 
edited volume in the field of communications.  I immediately thought of 
Paul Johnson's model from "Political Disagreement" and Axelrod's 
"Culture Model" as examples.  Can anyone else suggest models in which 
communication is a central mechanism of concern or of which it is the 
phenomena being studied?  I realize that this is a wide net, but I am 
interested to see what else is out there.
