  Purpose of this project is to develop and maintain Unicode-compatible
intelligent font for Devanagari script. This font is named "Gargi". This font
complies with the OpenType font statndard which is the only standard defined
fThis font is the first freely available (under GNU GPL) font for Devanagri.
Using this font users can view/type Unicode text in Devanagari
script.Devanagri script is the script used by languages like Hindi, Marathi
(in India) and Nepali (in Nepal) and covers the largest percentage of
population of India.

The initial design of this font was done by team under Dr Nagarjun of HBCSE,
Mumbai. After that it was further developed and maintained by indictrans team
(www.indictrans.org) which is a voluntary organisation of developers working
on development of free indian language technologies.

The glyphs used in the font are from truetype fonts released under GNU GPL by
Cyberscape Limited.Now the font is being maintained by Mrs Monika Shah and Ms
Sonali Sonania of janabhaaratii team (www.janabhaaratii.org.in) at C-DAC
Mumbai (formerly NCST)
