I found a working solution for us - maybe it helps you as well:
The mount option "noserverino" for the cifs mounts (backup source
directories) did the trick:
//x.x.x.x/share /path/to/mountpoint cifs username=xxxx,<.>,noserverino
Now rdiff-backup only treats files as changed if they were really
changed and the backup takes 1-2 hours instead of 20-22 hours!
